China Region Lakes Alliance

A Lake is the Product of Its Watershed . . . and the People Who Care for It

Since 1995, the China Region Lakes Alliance has worked to improve and protect the water quality of China Lake, Threemile Pond and Webber Pond. Our core programs include preventing the introduction of invasive aquatic plants with the Courtesy Boat Inspection (CBI) Program, LakeSmart landowner education and recognition, and the Youth Consevation Corps (YCC). In 2019, we introduced the Gravel Roads Rehabilitation Program.

Courtesy Boat Inspection

CRLA operates a Courtesy Boat Inspection (CBI program at 4 launches on China Lake, Threemile Pond and Webber Pond. Staffed mostly by students from area high schools, our CBI program provides education and outreach against the threat of aquatic invasive plants and animals that can choke a lake harming the ecosystem and enjoyment for all.

LakeSmart

The choices made by lakefront landowners can make a difference for the people, fish and wildlife that call our lakes home.  LakeSmart is an education and reward program that helps lakefront homeowners make land use choices that keep pollutants out of our lakes. Offered in partnership with Maine Lakes and China Lake Association, LakeSmart is free, non-regulatory and entirely voluntary.

Youth Conservation Corps

The CRLA fosters the next generation of environmental leaders as members of our Youth Conservation Corps (YCC). The YCC completes as many as 20 water quality protection projects each summer within the watersheds of China Lake, Threemile Pond and Webber Pond, many in collaboration with LakeSmart program participants.

Gravel Roads Rehabilitation Program

Gravel roads are a major source of erosion and sedimentation; in fact this Nonpoint Source Pollution is the number one pollutant in our waters. Based on the condition of gravel camp roads around China Lake, in 2019 the Gravel Road Rehabilitation Program began to address gravel camp roads that posed a phosphorus loading threat to China Lake. The program continues to improve several camp roads per year. Learn more
